Virtues of Ameer Mu'awiya (RA):
– Nabi Muhammad's (صلى الله عليه وسلم) personal scribe

– Governor of Syria under Khalifa 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA)
– Assembled the first ever Muslim fleet, which eventually conquered Cyprus

Defending Ameer Mu'awiya (RA) in light of his opposition to Hazrat 'Ali (RA):
– From the Syrian perspective, they were in the right as they were demanding justice for the brutal murder of Dhu-al-Nurayn Khalifa 'Uthman (RA)
– To provide context, the Khawarij who killed Khalifa 'Uthman (RA) were the ones who installed Hazrat Ali (RA) in power. The Khawarij who killed Khalifa 'Uthman and boasted about it, such as Malik ibn Ashtar, were commanders in Hazrat 'Ali's army.
– Again, from the Syrian perspective, not only were the killers of Khalifa 'Uthman (RA) not punished, but they were the leading commanders in Hazrat 'Ali's (RA) army so how could they (the Syrians) be wrong!?
May Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) have Mercy on Hazrat ‘Ali, Hazrat Mu’awiya, and the rest of the Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه وسلم) Companions.
